Best Practices: What Automations do you Need?

The following is a list of useful questions to ask yourself when creating your automations. These will help you decide which different elements are needed in each of the automations on your site. Best practices for creating these can be found in the following section.

Do you want to be able to trigger a response (i.e. alarm) directly from the web application?

If so, please create at least one automation. Begin by choosing 'Web Alarm' from the 'watch alarms of type' menu. 

If someone misses a scheduled or forced check-in, would you like someone to be notified, or an alarm to be created?

If so, please create at least one automation. Begin by choosing 'Check-in Alarm' from the 'watch alarms of type' menu.

When someone triggers an alarm in the phone app, would you like someone to be notified?

If so, please create at least one automation. Begin by choosing 'Mobile Alarm' in the 'watch alarms of type' menu. 

Do you have areas on your site that users are not allowed to enter, or that require special clearance?

If so, you will need to create at least one automation. Begin by selecting 'Area Alarms' from the 'Watch alarms of type' menu. Enter the 'Exclusion Zone' or area with limited entry into 'Watch these'. If some people or a particular group is allowed in that area, we recommend adding that group or individual to 'Ignore these'.

Do you want to be notified when someone exits one or more areas on your site?

If so, you'll need an automation for this. Begin by selecting 'Area Alarms' in 'Watch alarms of type'. We recommend adding the area or areas concerned to the 'Watch these' menu. If you do not want to be notified when certain people or groups leave the area, choose those people or groups from the 'Ignore these' menu.

Do responses to missed check-ins vary by person, area, group, day or time of day?

If so, you will need a different automation for each response. Make sure you specify who the automation applies to in the 'Watch these' and 'Ignore these' and/or 'During this time' menus. Make sure you specify the response through the option menus in 'Who to Notify'.
