A map is how you view data layers together. A map contains a base map (the preferred world map, such as OpenStreetMap or Google Road Map), and any data layers that you’d like to be able to see together.
Now that you have some data in your site, there are two ways that you can create a map to visualize it:
Click the Maps icon on the left-hand side of the screen and click "NEW" at the top right of the Map List. Alternatively, you can right-click on the map and click "CREATE NEW MAP HERE".
For each you need to do the following:
- Provide a name and description for your map.
- Decide whether or not you wish to copy the layers currently on the map. This is useful if you wish to create a map out of layers that you are already viewing on the site.
- Click SAVE. This will create the map and open it in editing mode like so:
- You can change the position and zoom scale of the map by re-positioning it and clicking "Set to my current state". This will set the initial extent that loads when anyone opens the map.
Now you have a map! Easily add more layers to this map by clicking the green "ADD LAYERS" button.
